Ukrainian law enforcement agencies have discovered the body of Anastasiia Berezovska, the woman suspected by Monaco authorities of carrying out a bomb attack on the Yermolayev family.

On the evening of 29 June, an explosion occurred outside a residential building in Monaco after an unknown person left a backpack containing explosives. Three members of the same Ukrainian-origin family were injured: a man, a woman, and their 13-year-old son. Media reports identify the man as Dnipro businessman Vadym Yermolayev, who renounced Ukrainian citizenship in 2019 in favour of Cypriot citizenship and has been under Ukrainian sanctions since 2023 for business activities in occupied Crimea.

Who is Vadym Yermolayev, the oligarch targeted in the Monaco attack?

Anastasiia Berezovska is considered the main perpetrator of the 29 June bomb attack in Monaco based on detailed video analysis by Monaco investigators. Initially believed to be a man, the suspect was later identified as Berezovska after authorities re-examined CCTV footage and noticed that the same person – wearing identical clothing and carrying the same bag – had conducted multiple reconnaissance visits to the targeted residential building in the days leading up to the explosion. Further evidence includes the German-plated car she used in Monaco, with her movements traced from Monaco through France and Italy back to Ukraine. Monaco authorities issued an Interpol Red Notice for her arrest on suspicion of attempted murder, placing an explosive device in a public place, and criminal conspiracy.

According to the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), the Office of the Prosecutor General, and the National Police, Berezovska’s body was found on 7 July. She had returned to Ukraine on 1 July and was in contact with her family and two men – a former law enforcement officer and a current employee of Ukraine’s Main Directorate of Intelligence (GUR).

Both men had repeatedly transferred money to Berezovska’s cryptocurrency and bank accounts. During searches, the active GUR officer confessed to killing her together with his accomplice, the former officer. He reportedly stated that he acted at his own discretion and did not inform his hierarchy about financial transfers and contacts with Berezovska.

A basement resembling a torture chamber was discovered in the former officer’s home near Kyiv.

The two men have been detained on suspicion of premeditated murder committed by a group of persons. Investigators found Berezovska’s body with a gunshot wound to the head and recovered pistol casings at the scene. Both suspects are expected to be formally charged.

Ukrainian authorities have shared all relevant information with Monaco investigators and continue to work on identifying the organisers and other individuals involved in the Monaco attack.
